AMERICORPS COMMUNITY BUILDER
STIPEND: $7,200 total + $1,956 education award
TERM: Quarter-Time | ~450 hours over several months
Southeast Neighborhood Development (SEND) is a 501c3 non-profit community development whose mission is to advocate for housing, economic, and social equity by working with residents, business owners, and community partners to create and maintain inclusive, healthy, and vibrant neighborhoods in Southeast Indy.
POSITION SUMMARY:
SEND is seeking an enthusiastic and civic-minded individual to serve as our Community Builder through LISC AmeriCorps. This part-time, in-person role is perfect for someone interested in grassroots engagement, storytelling, public space activation, and community collaboration. The Community Builder will work alongside SEND staff and volunteers to support neighborhood initiatives, outreach strategies, and quality-of-life planning efforts — including programming for the Fountain Square Plaza, a vibrant public space at the heart of the neighborhood.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
Communicate activities, progress and engagement opportunities through marketing and outreaching, including, but not limited to, email newsletters, website updates, and periodic mailings
Maintain and update the Southeast Indy Quality of Life plans to be reflective of community input and that community stakeholders have a clear understanding of each plan
Assist residents, groups, organizations and institutions with identifying neighborhood assets and needs
Assist in creating partnerships between families, residents, neighborhood-based organizations, faith-based businesses, city/state government, health and human service providers, community development corporations, educational institutions, housing, local businesses and other community assets
Share community data and provide access to information for the benefits of neighbors, groups, organizations and institutions
Compile, assemble and distribute stories about neighborhood community building, planning and implementations processes
Engage in neighborhood events for outreach and public relations and coordinate volunteer opportunities
Ensure compliance with all grants, contract and reporting requirements and ensure that program goals and objectives are me
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS
Ideal candidates are community-oriented, detail-driven, and passionate about inclusive development. Strong communication skills, the ability to work independently, and experience using Microsoft Office Suite preferred. Bilingual candidates and those with lived experience in Southeast Indy are especially encouraged to apply.
