Building and rehabilitating affordable housing and fostering home ownership in the Greater Fountain Square area is one of SEND’s most important missions. We partner with the City of Indianapolis, Department of Housing and Urban Development, and neighborhood organizations to identify, purchase, rehab, and construct new homes for low- and middle-income residents. In most cases, mortgage payments for our homeowners are lower than the cost of renting.

SEND homes are completely renovated. We strip the interior walls and sometimes the flooring completely down to the framing to expose any problems that need to be corrected. We start the re-construction process with any needed repair to the foundation. All new plumbing, electric, gas heating, and air conditioning are installed as the walls and floors are recovered. The bathrooms and kitchens are fitted with completely new sinks, tub/showers, and cabinetry. The kitchens included a new stove, refrigerator, garbage disposal, and laundry area with washer and dryer. The exterior of the home is complete with new insulated windows, a new roof, and wood or vinyl siding.
