Pleasant Run
An amenity that slowly meanders through the SEND catchment area is the Pleasant Run Greenway. Originating in Garfield Park and traveling East to Ellenberger Park, this linear park flows along with the stream. SEND has hosted the six beautification efforts in the last two years on the Trail. Three of the six events have been managed by the Public Space committee and the other three have been partnerships with either the Lilly Day of Giving or the White River Clean-up. The efforts have each taken place at different locations along the parkway and focus on trash pickup on the trail and down in the streambed and also cutting back invasive species along the trail.
Our partners include Indy Greenways, which also works with Community Courts workers to pick up trash along the trail throughout the year, and Keep Indianapolis Beautiful, which provides gloves, bags and dumpsters. Watch for more such beautification efforts to come in the future. The goal is to make the trail something that people are proud of and consider a true asset to the community.
If anyone is interested in helping patrol the greenway, they can join the Trailsafe program. It involves monitoring a 1-2 mile section of the trail and reporting any maintenance issues, unsafe conditions, graffiti, etc that are noticed while using the trail. To join the program, contact Annie Brown at abrown@indygov.org.
